We went to the Hockney exhibition at the RA today. It isn’t a retrospective, with most of the work having been painted in the last 4 years. Some huge paintings, especially ‘Sermon on the Mount’, Hockney’s interpretation of a 1656 painting by Claude. There are other huge paintings consisting of 30 or more canvases. Many Yorkshire landscapes capturing the different seasons. The exhibition is full of wonderful colour. My favourite being ‘Winter Timber’ 2009. Simple brushstrokes, wonderful colour; the man is a genius! I bought the obligatory fridge magnet!
