Arcadian (Framed)

£275.00 £250.00

An early work by Roy Newby (he was in his teens when he made it), presented here as a mounted giclee print framed behind glass. It shows a water colour of a golden Arcadia: nude men, women and children (and fawn!) in an idealised natural setting by a lake. The quality of the anatomical drawing is excellent, but perhaps the most impressive quality on show here is the gentle, golden light which suffuses the whole scene. Here was a real talent in one so young.

Dimensions shown are for frame. Actual print: 53.5 cms x 19 cms.

Stamped on the back with Roy Newby’s signature and hand-signed by his son.

Roy Newby

Roy Newby (1912 - 2011) was a commercial artist and painter throughout most of the twentieth century. He published his first work at the age of 15 in the 1920's and went on making pictures until he was in his 80's. His last exhibition, in 2011, was part of the Vintage Festival at the Royal Festival Hall. He made his living drawing for comics and magazines for children and young people but his real love was for painting. Now, some of his best works are for sale - originals and prints.
