Beneath the Mountain

Whilst walking along a local bridleway, Shirley came across a field which contained 3 Highland cows – not a particularly usual sight where she lives. There is something about Highland cows which is very appealing – their shaggy coats might make you want to go up and hug one but the horns would probably make you think twice!

Shirley decided she wanted to paint these animals but felt they should be in a place where she would normally associate such cows doing what they do – standing in roads looking with interest at what is going on! In this painting there is a cottage, not your typical Highland Cottage admittedly, but the muted tones of the mountains are perhaps more indicative of Scotland along with its typically sparse landscape.

This high quality giclee print is mounted (mount size 50.8 x 40.6cm) and will fit a standard readymade 20″ x 16″ frame.

Shirley Netherton

I am a Cornish artist who has spent many years developing my unique style of painting with acrylics so that today my work is instantly recognisable. I feel lucky that the hobbies which I enjoy in my free time contribute towards my intense enthusiasm for painting. The photographs I take whilst walking and kayaking become the reference material for my work. I am so fortunate to live in such a beautiful county, surrounded by the sea with so many inland waterways - truly inspirational.
