Church at Miramar

Shirley had a late April holiday in Portugal, staying at Aguda, a small town due south of Porto. The town parallels a fantastic stretch of Atlantic coastline that reaches as far as the eye can see. On a beautiful sunny day Shirley walked north along the beach to Miramar.

On a rocky outcrop sat the small church ‘Capelo do Senhor Da Pedro’, with a small white cross atop. Outwardly plain and simple – on the inside it is incredibly ornate with painted walls and ceilings.

She found the colours of the landscape on the Portuguese Atlantic coast at the time of year quite subdued hence the unusual (for Shirley) muted colours of this painting. The unpolluted sand is a gentle, pale golden yellow and the early morning sea and sky are milky blue. In the distance Porto can be seen, the cityscape softened to lilac in the early morning light.

This high quality giclee print is mounted (mount size 400 x 400 mm) and will fit a standard readymade frame. It is also available as a high quality giclee print.

I am a Cornish artist who has spent many years developing my unique style of painting with acrylics so that today my work is instantly recognisable. I feel lucky that the hobbies which I enjoy in my free time contribute towards my intense enthusiasm for painting. The photographs I take whilst walking and kayaking become the reference material for my work. I am so fortunate to live in such a beautiful county, surrounded by the sea with so many inland waterways - truly inspirational.
