Enamelled Copper Bowl

Small copper bowl, decorated with enamel.  This process is unusual, most enamellists work on a flat surface.  My pieces are often high-fired, many layers of enamel being applied in a series of firings in the kiln.  Enamel is glass – sometimes I use transparent enamels so that the colour of the copper – and other enamel – glows through, sometimes I use opaque enamels for beautiful effects.  No two pieces are the same.  This little bowl is quite beautiful;  the inside has many layers of transparent enamel applied to the copper, with lines scored to echo the curving form of the bowl – the result is a deep golden interior with trailing deep red-gold lines;  the outside has been high-fired, giving a floating, misty green-white exterior which looks like clouds – almost as if it had been painted.  However – enamel is for ever – it will not fade, it will not darken, it is easy to clean and will be a treasure for ever.
