Blue Boat, Malpas

Blu Boat, Malpas – Giclee Print

The photograph that inspired this painting was taken on the same day as another of my works – The Harbourmaster’s Boat. Having had a wonderful day out on the kayak (but no fish!) I returned to my launch point at Malpas. This is a wonderful spot for kayakers as you can launch whatever the tide but parking is not always easy.

This is the view towards Tresillian looking back from the slipway – which in reality is cobbled. There was a very tired old yacht tender which had been pulled up onto the rocks. It was so worn there was hardly any paint visible, but glimpses of the blue it once was could be seen amongst the weathered wood. It was angledlooking up the river as if it would love to skip it’s mooring and float gently away towards the distant boats bobbing on the outgoing tide.

In my eyes this bedraggled specimen of a boat was as pretty as the day it was first painted – so that is how I portrayed it. The colour of the water in this painting has a more pastel tone than is usual for my work, which gives it a spring like feel.

This high quality giclee print is mounted and will fit a standard readymade frame.

I am a Cornish artist who has spent many years developing my unique style of painting with acrylics so that today my work is instantly recognisable. I feel lucky that the hobbies which I enjoy in my free time contribute towards my intense enthusiasm for painting. The photographs I take whilst walking and kayaking become the reference material for my work. I am so fortunate to live in such a beautiful county, surrounded by the sea with so many inland waterways - truly inspirational.
