Glass claw hammer on glass base

Yes this is the old joke, a glass hammer. Well now you really can get one! I have taken my old claw hammer with all its 30+ years of dents, knocks and muck on it. I then took a silicone mold and using the lost wax method created this piece. The old hammer has been used together with a block of old rough sawn timber, they have been cast together to form one solid item.

Having worked with glass for over 22 years, I still find the medium technically challenging at times, this often inspires me to push the boundaries of what I want to do, and what I know I am capable of. As a result, you're always learning. Movement within the glass, shape or colour are my signature pieces, that along with a sense of humor in my work are all essential for me to be happy with an individual piece or a body of work around a specific theme. I often try to allow the viewer to have a glimpse inside the piece, but not to see all the way through with total transparency, to give the viewer a feeling of wanting to actually go into the glass to see what's there. I have exhibited both nationally and internationally in Europe and have sold pieces throughout the continent.
