Glass claw hammer on oak base

Yes this is the old joke, a glass hammer. Well now you really can get one! I have taken my old claw hammer with all its 30+ years of dents, knocks and muck on it. I then took a silicone mold and using the lost wax method created this piece.

Cast hammer on solid oiled oak block, complete with casting sprue. The hammer is of course hammer size, about 12 inches with the oak block being 9×4 inch.

Having worked with glass for over 22 years, I still find the medium technically challenging at times, this often inspires me to push the boundaries of what I want to do, and what I know I am capable of. As a result, you're always learning. Movement within the glass, shape or colour are my signature pieces, that along with a sense of humor in my work are all essential for me to be happy with an individual piece or a body of work around a specific theme. I often try to allow the viewer to have a glimpse inside the piece, but not to see all the way through with total transparency, to give the viewer a feeling of wanting to actually go into the glass to see what's there. I have exhibited both nationally and internationally in Europe and have sold pieces throughout the continent.
