Lee Herring

Captured from his journeys up and down the country, Lee’s work portrays his incredible memory based landscapes . Born in 1987, Lee was educated in his home town of Sunderland and then went on to study Fine Art at the University of Chester. Completing his degree in 2008 with a 1st class honours degree whilst also receiving the coveted University prize for Fine Art. Since then Lee has had sell out exhibitions across the UK and in the last year his work has been shown in New York, London, Liverpool, Surrey and extensively throughout the North East of England. Lee’s inspiration comes from his numerous journeys by rail, travelling up to the North East and subsequently passing the vibrant landscapes of the Pennines. Each piece of Artwork is painted solely by memory and is created in a 3 stage process, whereby each time Lee re-visits the canvas the more his memory allows the initial image to return. Lee uses trowels and knives to scrape and spread the layers of paint around the canvas. His use of texture and bold colours creates an energetic, atmospheric and somewhat playful image. His unique use of Oils and Acrylics make his pieces stand out in the crowd and was recently a finalist in the Saatchi online competition. Lee has recently completed a commission for the largest health insurers in the UK and is enjoying a positive emergence into the art world.
