Lyme Regis

On a journey back from Southend-on-Sea, Shirley took the opportunity to visit some other parts of the country and photograph some places of interest. One of these was the picturesque town of Lyme Regis. Situated in the South West of Dorset, Lyme Regis is an historic unspoiled seaside resort and fishing port on the world famous Cobb harbour. Surrounded by beautiful coastlines and countryside, the area has now been awarded World Heritage Site Status; famous for its geology and fossil finds.

Shirley has painted the harbour with it’s typical fishing vessels designed to operate fishing trawls. Trawls are fishing nets that are dragged along the bottom of the sea or in mid-water at a specified depth. A trawler may operate two or more trawl nets simultaneously (double-rig and multi-rig). In the foreground sits one of the colourful boats which takes visitors around the beautiful Jurassic coastline with its characteristic blue lias clay falls. The town itself is a myriad of houses and shops, sweeping around the bay.

This high quality giclee print is mounted (mount size 40.6 x 50.8cm) and will fit a standard readymade 16″ x 20″ frame.

I am a Cornish artist who has spent many years developing my unique style of painting with acrylics so that today my work is instantly recognisable. I feel lucky that the hobbies which I enjoy in my free time contribute towards my intense enthusiasm for painting. The photographs I take whilst walking and kayaking become the reference material for my work. I am so fortunate to live in such a beautiful county, surrounded by the sea with so many inland waterways - truly inspirational.
