Mounts Bay

Mounts Bay, with Penzance at its centre, has recently been described as one of the ‘Most Beautiful Bays in the World’. The great sweep of land surrounding this expanse of the sea – the first safe haven for sailors coming in from the Atlantic Ocean – runs from the Lizard Point to Lands End and includes both the resort town of Penzance and the smaller communities of Marazion, Newlyn and Mousehole (pronounced Mowzel) with the dramatic sight of St Michael’s Mount dominating the view of the bay from almost any vantage point.

At low tide there is causeway and visitors can walk across to the island although they need to be aware of the tide times! Many a person has had to wade back across to the mainland although at high tide local fishermen provide a ferry service so nobody is left stranded!

Unusually Shirley has used pastel colours in this painting which brings a feeling of light and freshness to this understated image.

This high quality giclee print is mounted (mount size 50.8 x 40.6cm) and will fit a standard readymade 20″ x 16″ frame.

I am a Cornish artist who has spent many years developing my unique style of painting with acrylics so that today my work is instantly recognisable. I feel lucky that the hobbies which I enjoy in my free time contribute towards my intense enthusiasm for painting. The photographs I take whilst walking and kayaking become the reference material for my work. I am so fortunate to live in such a beautiful county, surrounded by the sea with so many inland waterways - truly inspirational.
