This artwork is an addition to a series of paintings which Shirley started in 2009 of the Greek Island of Poros – as featured in Joanna Lumley’s Greece!
Poros is a small Greek island in the southern part of the Saronic Gulf separated from the Peloponnese by a 200-metre wide sea channel. It consists of two islands: Sphairia, the southern part, which is of volcanic origin and where today’s city is located, andĀ Kalaureia, the northern and largest part. A bridge connects the two islands over a narrow isthmus.
This chapel is just a short walk around the corner from the villa where she stayed. It is situated right on the roadside which runs along the beach at Askeli. It is very small and dwarfed by an enormous palm tree. Shirley particularly liked the
wonderful rounded dome with itsĀ brightly coloured roof.
This high quality giclee print is mounted (mount size 40.6 x 50.8cm) and will fit a standard readymade 16″ x 20″ frame.
