This artwork is an addition to a series of paintings which Shirley started in 2009 of the Greek Island of Poros – as featured in Joanna Lumley’s Greece!
Poros is a small Greek island in the southern part of the Saronic Gulf separated from the Peloponnese by a 200-metre wide sea channel. It consists of two islands: Sphairia, the southern part, which is of volcanic origin and where today’s city is located and Kalaureia, the northern and largest part. A bridge connects the two islands over a narrow isthmus.
This little church is situated directly on a little beach in the village of Askeli. As with many of the churches in Greece, it is completely white with blue paintwork, the colour of which is echoed in the sea. In the distance is the Greek mainland Galatas which is just a 2 minute ride away in a water taxi.
This high quality giclee print is mounted (mount size 50.8 x 40.6cm) and will fit a standard readymade 20″ x 16″ frame.
