Poppies and Lace

Giclee Print (No.11 of 50) – Poppies and Lace.

From an original watercolour still life of vintage tea cup filled with flowers.

This beautiful watercolour was painted from a little still life and features a vintage tea cup filled with summer flowers including red poppies. The poppies had to be painted quickly in one sitting as they drop their petals after a couple of hours, so it was a real rush against time. I kept the background a crisp white which really helps the detail and colours to stand out and gives the image a contemporary feel. The Lace was added last and I then went straight on to paint a larger version with more tea cups and butterflies, this painting called ‘Poppies and Tea Cups’ is also available as a limited edition print.

The print is mounted in off white mount board and will arrive ready for framing accompanied by a Certificate of Authenticity. The Certificate gives the title and edition number and is signed and dated. Ask your framer to attach the certificate to the back of your new frame. Giclee prints use the most up to date printing process, and are printed onto the highest quality acid-free archival watercolour paper using only the best inks, the prints have the remarkable colour saturation and continuous tone characteristics one would expect of an original painting and are thus nearly indistinguishable from the original watercolour.

Size of unmounted print: 25cm x 25cm

I am a botanical and nature artist. My beautiful garden inspires many of my paintings which feature flowers, insects and butterflies. Vintage china, crystal and lace also features strongly in my still life studies. I prefer to keep the crisp white paper as my background. I also love to paint birds which I photograph in the garden, countryside and nature reserves. I favour watercolours for their delicate translucent beauty and vibrant pure colours, perfect for painting petals and feathers. I use lots of layers to build up rich colours and realism. Over the last twenty years I have had more than a hundred watercolours reproduced as greetings cards, stationary and calendars for many leading publishers including The Medici Society, Nigel Quiney, Carlton Cards and Woodmansterne.
