Christopher Langley

Inspired by the landscape and the people of Wales – meet Welsh artist Christopher Langley.                                                                            From the crashing of the sea on rocks in Pembrokeshire to the intricate architectural detail of Cardiff’s pubs, award-winning artist Christopher Langley finds huge inspiration in his Welsh surroundings. Raised in Pontypridd, Chris became professional in 2012. Today, Chris gives demonstration to art societies and schools in addition to being invited to comment on art topics on BBC Radio Wales.                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                              Langley is a regular contributor to the South Wales Argus, featured on Media Wales and has been invited to exhibit in London as part of London Welsh Arts Week 2018.                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                        He is also a member of the 4Network & Zokit Business Communities, promoting art in Wales. He has appeared on S4C’s Heno for his local Cardiff Pub series in addition to being approached to give a feature on Welsh art on TV’s Cefn Gwlad. Chris was invited to exhibit in New York, where one of his paintings was chosen as the event poster at a month long exhibition. A committee member of the South Wales Art Society (SWAS), Chris is artist in residence at the Celtic Manor Resort and David Lloyd Tennis Center, Cardiff. His work features in a number of public venues throughout South Wales. An expressive and intuitive painter, Chris works with palette knife, brushes, fingers or whatever else comes to hand to get the desired effect. With his oil paintings, Chris experiments with mark-making, colour and texture with palette knife to create effects, sometimes leading unpredictability to allow the paintings to emerge almost by themselves! Chris brings a fresh interpretation to his subjects.                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                        He says: “There have been many paintings of Cardiff Landmarks and Castle Coch, for example, but none have used the colour combination I bring to the subject. I find great inspiration in many things about Wales; the people and the towns; the unique land and seascapes” Chris’ recent series on Tenby have been very well received. Chris provides consultation with local artists and in addition to commissions from private individuals to business owners. If you have an idea for your very own unique painting, whether a pet portrait, land or seascape, portrait of your home - for you, or as a special gift, contact Chris today. Langley is influenced by David Hockney, Gillian McDonald, Barry Hilton and Welsh artist Rob Piercy. Chris is a member of the IAS, Royal Television Society (RTS) and The South Wales Art Society.
