Watercolour painting of a mother grey seal and her pup.
Mother seals leave their pups for many hours while they hunt at sea. The pups stay on the beach and wait.
I was very lucky to witness this magical reunion between mother and pup and decided this would make a lovely painting.
I worked from sketches and photographs taken at Cromer Beach and Horsey Beach both on the North Norfolk coast and have given the scene a pink morning glow.

I am a botanical and nature artist. My beautiful garden inspires many of my paintings which feature flowers, insects and butterflies. Vintage china, crystal and lace also features strongly in my still life studies. I prefer to keep the crisp white paper as my background. I also love to paint birds which I photograph in the garden, countryside and nature reserves. I favour watercolours for their delicate translucent beauty and vibrant pure colours, perfect for painting petals and feathers. I use lots of layers to build up rich colours and realism. Over the last twenty years I have had more than a hundred watercolours reproduced as greetings cards, stationary and calendars for many leading publishers including The Medici Society, Nigel Quiney, Carlton Cards and Woodmansterne.
