Still Life with Pearls

Interior still life including yellow roses, pearls, grapes and china. I set this colourful still life up using lots of interesting pieces from my cupboards and lovely yellow roses from the garden. The pearls and grapes were fabulous to paint and really set the mood.
I used watercolour and gouache for this painting.

I am a botanical and nature artist. My beautiful garden inspires many of my paintings which feature flowers, insects and butterflies. Vintage china, crystal and lace also features strongly in my still life studies. I prefer to keep the crisp white paper as my background. I also love to paint birds which I photograph in the garden, countryside and nature reserves. I favour watercolours for their delicate translucent beauty and vibrant pure colours, perfect for painting petals and feathers. I use lots of layers to build up rich colours and realism. Over the last twenty years I have had more than a hundred watercolours reproduced as greetings cards, stationary and calendars for many leading publishers including The Medici Society, Nigel Quiney, Carlton Cards and Woodmansterne.
