The Clock Tower, Poros

Shirley’s final view of Poros provided the inspiration for this painting. As she steamed back towards Piraeus on the early morning ferry at the end of a perfect holiday Shirley took one last photo. She was captivated by the complex kaleidoscope of buildings above which rises the symbol of Poros town, the clock tower ‘Roloi’. And in the water sat boats and ferries, waiting to take holiday makers to their various destinations.

The clock tower stands proudly on a rocky outcrop against the pale blue sky. In the distance are barren hills dotted with a few cyprus trees and bushes. White yachts can be seen on the far side whilst in the foreground the craft are of a more utilitarian nature. As with Shirley’s other paintings of Greece she has captured the warmth of the wonderful Mediterranean colours.

This high quality giclee print is mounted (mount size 50.8 x 40.6cm) and will fit a standard readymade 20″ x 16″ frame.

Shirley Netherton

I am a Cornish artist who has spent many years developing my unique style of painting with acrylics so that today my work is instantly recognisable. I feel lucky that the hobbies which I enjoy in my free time contribute towards my intense enthusiasm for painting. The photographs I take whilst walking and kayaking become the reference material for my work. I am so fortunate to live in such a beautiful county, surrounded by the sea with so many inland waterways - truly inspirational.
