The River Duoro, Porto

Porto in Portugal – home of port! What a place to have a holiday. The town is divided by the Douro River which winds its way through the clusters of houses. At the water’s edge sit the port houses themselves where visitors and locals sit in the sunshine at any time of the day, imbibing this most delectable of drinks whilst watching the world go by. The large white building in the right foreground of the painting is home to Calem Port – one of the finest.

There are several bridges spanning the river – the photograph for this image was taken standing on the largest of the bridges looking up the river towards the next one. Shirley has used lilac to create the shading on the white bridge, the colour of which has also been used for the port house and rocks below. It complements the orange roofs of the houses and the blue of the river.

This high quality giclee print is mounted (mount size 50.8 x 40.6cm) and will fit a standard ┬áreadymade 20″ x 16″ frame.

I am a Cornish artist who has spent many years developing my unique style of painting with acrylics so that today my work is instantly recognisable. I feel lucky that the hobbies which I enjoy in my free time contribute towards my intense enthusiasm for painting. The photographs I take whilst walking and kayaking become the reference material for my work. I am so fortunate to live in such a beautiful county, surrounded by the sea with so many inland waterways - truly inspirational.
