Wedding Island, Poros

Shirley arrived by kayak at the heart-shaped ‘Daskalio’ shortly after a wedding party had departed following a ceremony in this most tiny of churches, hence the title. The day was hot. The view she has chosen for this most magical of places was not taken on that day, but at another time when she  looked over the town towards the islet.

In the foreground of this painting are the wonderful red roofs so typical of the Mediterranean. They form a patchwork of colour which contrast so beautifully against the clear turquoise water. And in the distance is ‘Wedding Island’. Typically the far hills are fairly barren – broken by lines of dark cyprus trees which wend their way up the hillsides above a small village nestled by the shore.

This painting is on a narrow canvas with painted sides and is ready to hang or can be framed. It is also available as a high quality giclee print.

Shirley Netherton

I am a Cornish artist who has spent many years developing my unique style of painting with acrylics so that today my work is instantly recognisable. I feel lucky that the hobbies which I enjoy in my free time contribute towards my intense enthusiasm for painting. The photographs I take whilst walking and kayaking become the reference material for my work. I am so fortunate to live in such a beautiful county, surrounded by the sea with so many inland waterways - truly inspirational.
