Alf Rogers

My art attempts to be painterly and show expressionistic figures that show a depth and excitement of tone, colour or line.     Having started my working life as an apprenticed Lithographic Retoucher, where there was a need for  detail and accuracy. I am now retired and can break away from past constraints to attempt a  free and loose style.  However there still remains the need to be accurate. A legacy from my early days, I suspect.     Whilst I still attend life drawing classes to improve my drawing, I have keen interest in portraiture. I am studying portraiture with a local class where I endeavour to achieve a likeness in a painterly style. I have sold paintings in UK and Australia and do consider commissions.   I will guarantee if a purchase is not to a buyer satisfaction and I am contacted within seven days of the buyer receiving the artwork, I will return the sale price once I have received the returned artwork.     My other great love beside art is Jazz and in many respects is akin to expressive and impressionistic painting. All styles give me pleasure but the 1960’s is my favourite period – Miles and Coltrane with a particular love for Art Pepper.     I lived most of my life in London and after I retired  spent seven years in Australia. I returned four years ago and live by the coast in Southport, near Liverpool.
