Andrew Shimmin

Andrew was born in Liverpool in 1967. After leaving school he completed a 2 year foundation course in art before embarking on a 3 year degree in Technical and Scientific Illustration at Blackpool College. He has followed a career as a Technical Illustrator since 1988 and currently works in Bombardier Aerospace, Belfast. Andrew has painted from an early age and has utilised his skills to produce paintings which are typically highly technical and detailed in nature. He is an accomplished watercolour artist, which is reflected in his other paintings of railway scenes, which is also another passion which has carried through from childhood. Andrew also likes to paint Wildlife, Landscapes, Townscapes and Architectural subjects where detail is at the forefront of his compositions. Presently he is producing a series of work to be submitted to the Ulster Watercolour Society where he hopes to exhibit his work, this new work shown here reflects the nature in which old machinery (cars, tractors, ect) weather over time when neglected. In particular the different ways light and shade affects the tones of aged surfaces. Watercolour techniques lend themselves well to this subject matter. Andrew has exhibited his work in several local galleries including The Eakin Gallery, Bradbury Gallery, Malone House and Belfast Castle Northern Ireland and has successfully sold a number of paintings throughout the UK and Europe.
