Andy Harwood

My name is Andy Harwood, I developed my love for art while growing up in Spain in the region where Salvador Dali lived and I became hugely influenced by his work. On returning to England with my parents I soon found popularity at school by drawing Marvel Super Heroes for my friends. On leaving school I entered the family business of construction and soon found myself being asked to use my creative abilities to improve the layouts and designs of clients properties and now have my own design and build construction company. I never lost my love for drawing and painting and being a keen sportsman, who captained Great Britain at American football, I gravitated to painting my sporting heroes and also those I admire from the world of entertainment. I love portrait work and like to try to bring depth and feel to the subjects facial expressions, however I still like to let my “Dali” side come out and paint whatever is in my head now and again.  I usually paint in oils but recently have started developing what I call my ‘oil on foil’ technique where I paint over metal leaf, as I like the effect light bouncing off the metal leaf creates under varying light conditions. Now that some of the celebrities I have painted have begun to hang my work on their walls, including Sir David Jason and Gary Neville, I have started to take my art more seriously and have recently had my work displayed in several local galleries including London, Camberley and Henley. I hope you enjoy it too.
