billie mallett

My passion for painting took me to Farnham College of Art as a 16 year old, and from there to complete my post graduate training under the auspices of the famous artists’ community in St Ives, England.  I developed a love for the local light, landscapes, and skies of Cornwall; settled there, married, and raised a family of four, putting my love of art on the back burner for some years. In recent years, with time becoming more available to me, I’ve rekindled my passion for painting with considerable success.   Beginning with life drawing, I moved on to painting the female form on ever larger canvasses. I gradually found that I was spending more of my time in the pursuit of creating images that satisfied, charmed and provoked. I became bolder, and wanted to leave my viewers with a real sense of joy and satisfaction. I’ve become increasingly interested with the female form as both archetype and personification of ideas and beliefs, much as with the goddesses of old, their fundamental message being in who they are. I like to think of my images as monumental and sculptural, but surpassing the fleeting beauty of youth and giving substance to the more enduring qualities of woman in all her maturity and depth. Based in the UK and New Zealand, I paint in vivid colours with oils and acrylics on canvas. I exhibit in galleries; host shared and personal exhibitions, and my large original paintings, commissioned portraits and other smaller works sell to collectors in the UK, Netherlands, Indonesia, Canada, Australia and New Zealand.
